A small town in our metro area just passed a daytime curfew for all children of school age. Supposedly this was done to prevent kids from skipping school. The town’s highschool has one or two regular truants. There are roughly 20 children absent from all schools on any given day, including all of the children with legitimate excuses. There are 200 homeschooled children in this town.
Based on the information presented, this seems to be a way for police (or town officials) to harass homeschoolers. A child should not have to worry that they will be harassed by police because they homeschool. A person should not have to worry that they will be harrassed by police because of their age.
Why is it that our society gives so few rights to children? Regardless of their age, children are individuals just as much as anyone else.
